At TG Consulting our Ethos is to Connect, Collaborate and Create. The social media team have been busy this month creating educational content surrounding Pride Month and LGBTQIA+ issues. We believe it is not enough to simply put a rainbow flag on our logos for one month of the year, but to spread awareness about matters which affect LGBTQIA+ individuals all year round.
What does Pride mean?
Pride is given for the feeling of being proud to identify as LGBTQIA+.
It is also the name of the event (s) when people celebrate and support this feeling and people.
Why Does Pride Month Happen in June?
28th June 1969, The Stonewall Inn, a gay club in Greenwich Village (New York) was raided by Police.
As a result, protests lasted for 6 days that demanded the LGBTQ+ Community were given a space to be open and they could express their sexuality.
The First Pride March happened in 1970, where people marched from Greenwich Village to Central Park. (National Today.com)
You can find real life accounts of how it feels to accept your sexuality in our book, You Are A Limited Edition. Available on Amazon and Waterstones or you can purchase the book here.
What Does LGBTQIA+ Mean?
LGBTQIA+ stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer, Intersex, Asexual and the + sign symbolises that there are many more ways to identify your sexuality.
Why is There a Pride Flag?
The Symbol for Pride is usually a Rainbow or The Pride flag that was originally created by Gilbert Baker.
The Flag was then Modernised to become The Progress Pride Flag by Daniel Quasar.

What is an Ally?
Another term you may have heard of is an 'Ally'. This is a person who is not a member of an underrepresented group but who takes action to support that group. (Better Allies)
For example, the person who has written this article identifies as a straight female. Therefore, she is not gay however she has researched and supports the LGBTQIA+ Community - which makes her an Ally.
